A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to a personal financial responsibility
3pilot program; establishing a 3-year pilot program in the
4state for certain purposes; providing a program goal;
5requiring the Commissioner of Education to develop a
6program curriculum and select certain school districts for
7participation; requiring a report to the Governor and
8Legislature; providing an effective date.

10Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12     Section 1.  A 3-year pilot program is established to
13provide high school students in two school districts in each of
14the northern, middle, and southern regions of the state with
15personal financial responsibility instruction. The goal of the
16pilot program will be to ensure that high school students in
17pilot program districts receive instruction on budgeting, saving
18and investing, credit card debt, and other issues associated
19with personal financial responsibility. The Commissioner of
20Education shall develop a curriculum for the program and select
21the school districts for participation in the program. At the
22conclusion of the pilot program, the Commissioner of Education
23shall report to the Governor, the President of the Senate, and
24the Speaker of the House of Representatives on the feasibility
25of implementing the program on a statewide basis.
26     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
